About The Port

Dublin ferry port is one of the best ways to access England, Wales, Isle of Man and France. Depending on the season, there are up to 11 ferry crossings which include crossings to Liverpool, Holyhead, Douglas and Cherbourg.

The modern history of the port began in the 1700s with various banks, lighthouses and structures being added during the course of the century. By 1800, Dublin port was the third largest port city in Europe. The port continued to grow and since the 1950s, container traffic has dominated the trade scene into and out of the Irish capital. It now also has a thriving ferry industry, providing easy sea-based transport to and from Ireland.

The route durations vary from 2 hours 15 minutes to Holyhead all of the way to 18 hours on the Cherbourg service. The routes are managed by a mixture of P&O Ferries, Irish Ferries, Stena Line and Isle of Man Steam Packet.

There are 3 terminals at Dublin ferry port. Terminal 1 is for Irish Ferries and Steam Packet, Terminal 2 is for Stena Line, Terminal 3 is for P&O Ferries.

Directions For Getting There

If you are travelling to the port by car, Dublin Ferry port can be reached by the M1 from the North, the N11 from the South and the N7 from the West. The ferry port is close to the city centre and is very well signposted. From the city centre, follow the Quays from O'Connell Bridge down to the Point Depot music venue, then turn left and follow the road all the way to the port. In terms of parking, pay and display parking is available immediately outside the Terminal. Long term parking is available and charged on a daily basis.

If you are travelling by rail, Connolly Station serves the North and South of Ireland and is situated 4 miles or a 15 minute bus ride from Dublin Ferry port. Heuston Station serves the West of Ireland and is situated 7 miles or a 30 minute bus ride from Dublin Ferry port.

If you are planning to reach the port by bus, The Central Bus Station, Busárus, is situated 4 miles from Dublin Ferry port. There is a connecting bus service between the Ferry port and the city centre. Tickets can be purchased on-board the vessel prior to arrival in Dublin.
